Getting started
How do I make a GIF from images?
Choose Image to GIF and upload at least two JPG, PNG or WebP images. Put the frames in order with the arrows, choose a frame delay and output width, then select Create GIF. Preview the result and download the .gif file.
Is GIF Generator free? Do I need an account?
Image-to-GIF and local video conversion are free, with no account, watermark or payment required. AI text generation is a separate service and its availability is shown in the Text to GIF tool.
Which image formats and file sizes can I use?
Use JPG, PNG or WebP images. The image editor accepts up to 40 frames, up to 10 MB per file and 80 MB in total. Individual images must be under 40 megapixels. Animated input files are not supported as editable frame sequences.
Can I use GIF Generator on my phone?
Yes, the tools work in a current browser on a phone, tablet or desktop. Large files need more memory, so choose a smaller output width or fewer frames if your phone struggles. Video format support depends on your browser and device.
How do I convert a video to a GIF?
Open Video to GIF, choose a video your browser can play, and select a short section. The tool extracts up to 40 frames locally and opens them in the image editor. Review the sequence, create the GIF, and download it.
Frames, speed & size
How do I change the order of my pictures?
Use the left and right arrows under each frame. The numbered thumbnails show the playback order. Remove unwanted frames with the × button. These changes affect the sequence in your next export.
How do I make a GIF faster or slower?
Frame delay is how long each image stays on screen. A smaller delay plays faster; a larger delay plays slower. For example, 100 ms is about 10 frames per second, and 250 ms is about 4 frames per second.
How do I make the GIF file smaller?
Choose a smaller output width or remove frames. A shorter sequence and fewer pixels generally reduce the file size. Increasing the delay changes the playback speed but does not remove frames, so it is not an effective way to compress a GIF.
What output size should I choose?
Start with 480 px for a balanced result, or 320 px when file size matters. Choose 640 or 800 px for more detail. The first image sets the aspect ratio, and very tall output canvases may exceed the safety limit.
Can I mix portrait, landscape and square images?
Yes. The first frame sets the output shape. Fit keeps the whole image with white space where needed. Fill crops edges to cover the frame. Reorder your first image if you want a different aspect ratio.
Can I make my GIF loop forever?
Yes. Leave Loop forever checked to repeat the exported GIF. Uncheck it to export a sequence without a repeat instruction. Some receiving apps may apply their own playback behavior.
Can I keep a transparent background?
The current exporter renders transparent areas on white. It does not preserve transparency. If you need a specific background, add it to your source images before uploading.
Quality & troubleshooting
Why does my GIF look grainy or have fewer colors?
GIF supports up to 256 palette colors per frame. Detailed photographs and gradients can lose color detail when converted. This exporter uses color quantization without dithering. Simple graphics, flat colors and a smaller output size tend to work well.
Why is my GIF larger than the original video?
Modern video formats compress movement efficiently. GIF stores a sequence of indexed-color frames and can become much larger. Keep the clip short, reduce the width, and use fewer frames when preparing a GIF for sharing.
Does a GIF include sound?
No. GIF does not contain an audio track. Converting a video to a GIF keeps the visual frames only. Share the original video if sound is important.
Why can’t my video be opened?
The video must use a codec your browser can decode; the file extension alone does not guarantee support. A standard H.264 MP4 is often a practical choice. Try another browser or convert the video to a supported format first.
What should I do if creation is slow or fails?
Use fewer images or a smaller output width and try again. Keep the tab open while processing. The encoder stops after two minutes rather than running indefinitely. Cancel preserves your source frames, so you can adjust the settings and retry.
Can I edit a GIF I already downloaded?
This release creates GIFs from source images or extracted video frames. It does not import an existing animated GIF as an editable timeline. Keep your source images if you want to make changes later.
Privacy & AI
Are my images and videos uploaded to a server?
Local Image to GIF and Video to GIF processing happens in your browser. We do not upload those source files for conversion. Text to GIF is different: when enabled, it sends your prompt to Waffo Prompt Sift for screening and fal.ai for model generation. The output is reviewed before being converted locally.
Do you use analytics?
With analytics consent, the site loads Google Tag Manager and Microsoft Clarity to help understand site usage. Local conversion does not intentionally send your image pixels, video files, file names or prompts to the analytics data layer. Tags configured in the container may collect normal website usage data.
Can I use pictures made with ChatGPT or another AI image tool?
Yes. Export your pictures as JPG, PNG or WebP, then upload them as frames. For a smoother sequence, keep the subject, framing and dimensions consistent between pictures. This tool does not create missing in-between frames or make a single still image move intelligently.
Does Text to GIF generate a real GIF?
Text to GIF requires an account. Eligible new identities receive 100 credits once. MiniMax H3 models on fal.ai generate a 3-second video, which passes a separate output review before the browser creates your .gif. Turbo costs 100 credits, HD 200, and H3 Max Studio 800. Model output is not guaranteed to form a seamless loop. The tool shows whether AI generation is currently available before you submit.
Can I use a GIF in a commercial project?
You are responsible for having permission to use the source images, video and any protected content they contain. This converter does not grant rights to third-party content. For AI output, review the terms of the model service you use.
Will my project still be here after I refresh?
The local editor is temporary. Refreshing, navigating away or closing the tab can clear your selected files and generated result. Download the GIF before leaving, and keep the original files if you want to recreate it.
